Following the story βFamily of dead woman calls for carbon monoxide alarmsβ (25 April, page 23), if Barratt did use Corgi-registered installers then they should be contacted and the other work theyβve done checked.
CO alarms should be considered βdeathβ alarms, not health alarms. CO Gas Safety (www.co-gassafety.co.uk) is an independent registered charity that has been lobbying since 1995 for a levy on the industry to raise awareness of the dangers of and promote research into CO.
The Health and Safety Commission recommended a levy on suppliers in 2000 and that the gas emergency service carry equipment to test appliances for CO. Why havenβt these implemented?
