Douglas Kent’s comments in the online article ā€œBAA forced to remove plastic windows from listed buildingā€ (23 August) are just the type of misinformed remarks we’ve come to expect from the anti-PVC brigade.

PVC is low-maintenance, long-lasting, recyclable and sustainable. When installed in harmony with a property it can add value and character. PVCu windows have evolved.

We can resolve the issue simply. I challenge doubters to distinguish from the roadside between an appropriately designed timber and PVCu sash window installed in period properties. Will anyone take up the challenge?

It’s energy-efficient too – most of the British Fenestration Rating Council’s top A to C-rated windows are made with PVCu, cutting carbon emissions and cutting homeowners’ fuel bills.
