Donald Trump halts construction of golf resort after blasting β€œugly” wind turbines

Property tycoon Donald Trump has halted construction of a Β£750m luxury golf resort near Aberdeen while the Scottish government decides on proposals for a nearby offshore wind farm.

The billionaire property developer has frozen plans to build a second 18-hole golf course, a five-star hotel and a range of luxury villas, houses and timeshare apartments.

In a statement the Trump Organisation called on the Scottish government to reject the wind farm, which includes 11 turbines off the coast of Aberdeen Bay, warning that β€œit cannot allow the coastline to be ruined by an ugly industrial park directly off the shoreline”.

Construction of the scheme’s first golf course and a temporary clubhouse are due to complete in June.

The statement added: β€œWe intend to open the championship golf course at the end of June, well ahead of schedule.

β€œAll further plans for future development, including the hotel, are now on hold until the Scottish government makes a decision on the application for the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre.

β€œIf the North-east of Scotland is serious about tourism and creating a global golf destination it cannot allow the coastline to be ruined by an ugly industrial park directly off the shoreline.”
